Section 19. SELF CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS (SCBA)

All PVFD personnel shall wear SCBA and be “on air “when ever they enter an area that is immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) or has the potential to be an IDLH situation.

1.      SCBA will be checked weekly either before or after meetings.

2.      Units will be checked to insure a minimum of 1500 psi in the air bottle, regulator functions properly, pass devise functions properly, all hoses and straps are in good condition, and condition of harness. Report any repairs made or needed to a PVFD officer.

3.      Any SCBA that has been exposed to hazardous material shall be reported to a PVFD officer immediately.

4.      Each PVFD member will be issued his/her own personal SCBA mask. It will be their responsibility to keep clean and in proper working order. Notify a PVFD officer if any repairs are needed.

5.     If a member chooses to have facial hair other than a mustache, then he shall not be allowed to operate in an IDLH atmosphere.
