Standard Operating Guidelines Section 17. POV RESPONSE 1. PVFD members who have completed the probationary period/requirements and an approved emergency driving course may utilize emergency lights and sirens on their POV within the PVFD district while responding to the PVFD station only. 2. PVFD officers may utilize emergency lights and sirens on their POV outside of the PVFD district after contacting Denton County dispatch and notifying them of a code 3 response. Emergency lighting and sirens are used for a courtesy right-of-way and in no way give the POV the right to violate safe driving practices and Department of Transportation laws (DOT). 4. Emergency lighting may be red, clear, or amber. Blue lights are not permitted due to the potential of being mistaken for law enforcement. Green is to be used only for incident command and shall be visible to all incoming units. 5. School zones and residential street speed limits will be adhered to at all times. 6. All PVFD members will not proceed thru intersections or stop signs without first ensuring it is safe to do so. 7. All PVFD members shall operate all POV in a safe and courteous manner based on road and weather conditions. 8. Any misuse of emergency lights and sirens will be grounds for reprimand up to and including removal from PVFD membership. |
